Wow! What a morning!! My first meeting of the day was with the Insurance Committee on which I serve. So many issues and so many of our constituency affected. We heard about how REALTORS® were first on scene with assistance when a whole county in South Carolina was inundated with flood waters. Unfortunately more than eighty percent of the homeowners in that area had no flood insurance since the county was consider “low risk” for flooding. This led to a discussion of how we might need to rethink how property owners access flood insurance.
Then it was on to a special meeting I had with Stefan Swanepoel, Chairman and CEO of SWANEPOEL T3 GROUP. The Swanepoel T3 Group is the leading strategic information company in the residential real estate industry and NAR has asked them to look now into the commercial side of our industry. Part of that process involves their interviewing several dozen of our commercial practitioners and I had the privilege or participating. The end result will be a 150-200-page report which will help NAR better understand the issues and trends as well as opportunities and threats. My kudos to NAR for recognizing the importance of our commercial practitioners!
Lunch was a treat!
As incoming chair of the Commercial Leadership Forum I was asked to attend a leadership orientation with all of the other committee chairs and vice-chairs. It was thrilling just to be in the room! There must have been a couple of hundred people there-all representing the uppermost leadership of NAR. We heard from President Bill Brown and President-Elect Emily Mendenhall. Our 2017 vice president team gave an orientation primer which was very helpful to us newbies on how to get things done.
Now its time to head back to the room for a nap! I have to pace myself, and I want to be in my best form for the big event tonight—the Inaugural Gala. More on that later!
