Housing Opportunity Program Grants for Associations

At the Housing Opportunity Committee, we heard about tremendous successes from associations who applied for and used HOP grants to advance affordable housing in their communities. We heard from the Hawaii REALTORS® who spoke of their need to address the homelessness issue in their islands and how an event they held through the HOP grant increased awareness of their governor of this very issue.

Collaborative efforts with their local government and local housing partners gave their association much appreciated press that helped elevate both the issue and the REALTOR® brand.

I was given an opportunity to present Florida REALTORS®’ advocacy strategies and initiatives that advance affordable housing in our state. The key point is that regardless of the issue (homelessness, senior housing, trust funds, etc.) there are some strategies that are applicable across the board to advance issues, such as:

  1. Coalition building
  2. Policy/advocacy efforts
  3. Mobilizing REALTORS® to action
