President and President Elect Round Table

In a large conference room Sunday morning, presidents and president elects from around the country converged to discuss the challenges of running organizations that very from 30,000 to 300 members.

A common topic of discussion was how to get more of the younger and newer REALTORS® involved at their associations. Top ideas from member included: mentoring a new member, create a vibrant and involved YPN Group, and ask brokers to submit names to participate in task forces and committees. Some of the larger boards have created the Leadership Academy to inspire young leaders, and require them to attend a state, national, or legislative conference to graduate.

Another concern was safety issues that confront real estate agents as they do their day to day business. Some associations offer programs, but are finding adoption rates below 15%. Some of the safety ideas include having vendors attend open houses with agents and creating safe zones at affiliates that agents can go to if they have a concern about the client that is with them or following during showings.

The round tables were separated by size and topics and this allowed similar size boards to share what has and what has not worked of them. As a president elect of the Greater Tulsa Association of REALTORS®, this was a great forum to exchange ideas with presidents and president elects from across the table.
